Reminiscence: At Sea

SOFT PASTELS
AT SEA

Reminder: I am not a pirate!

There is a mystical calmness about the sea, it’s a stress buster and can shoo away one’s worries in a jiffy, it calms the nerves and brings forth peace with the promise of eternity. This series is a dive into my former memories via pastel art.

The city of Abu Dhabi is rife with skyscrapers and shimmery lights, a kaleidoscope of modernity and traditional Arabian architecture. In this assortment of sand, steel and glass, there lies a gleam of nature, an escape to paradise, which is the corniche of Abu Dhabi. It is an 8km stretch along the waterfront in the heart of Abu Dhabi, the cool breeze of the sea on hot summer days is blissful in the desert, it’s a place to witness the normality of life, mid-aged women strolling in their salwar kameez, cycling-enthusiasts, new parents with their strollers and balloons tied to them, suit-cladded power people on their hand-less devices talking their brains out. Toddlers running around giggling through their toothless faces. Crowds gathering there to witness the national fireworks and small kids spray-painting cars is a sight to watch.

This corniche is where I have lived some of the most memorable moments of my childhood days, I vividly remember when my parents got me an Apache-Magnum (the cool name is just for the flex) it was my first and my last bike. As the adrenaline junkie I am (READ the skateboarding blog) I had attached a speedometer to the bike and started pushing my limits, I remember tapping the 51 Kph mark on the meter and is one my most relished memories at the corniche. Though, I am not a sportsperson per say, but I occasionally do dabble in the squash court. Playing ball games with my family at the corniche and the sheer memoir of it continues to be my happy place.

These memories have defined and shaped me as a person, the visits to Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (Go READ the blog already!) and the corniche was a part of my life in Abu Dhabi and after spending 10 years in Al-Jamea-Tus-Saifiyah where I found my love for Art, going back to these memorable moments with these blogs was a journey for me to explore my past which has sculpted the artisan in me, and for my readers to know the kind of person I am, and that art isn’t confined by canvases and papers, but has no boundaries to it and each person is an artist in their own unique way. I too am still shaping myself as an artist and exploring new forms of expressions, please comment down below on what other forms of art would you like me to explore.
